How do I get involved in church?

“How can I get involved?”

It’s a frequently asked question when it comes to church, and, in fact, is a great question! However, the answer to that question depends on what you understand “church” to be.

If you see the church as a worship event, a preaching center, or some privatized religious service provider, then you might have in mind some sort of structured and scheduled program that you can help create, plan, organize, or facilitate.

However, when you read the New Testament, you begin to see the reality of what we often say around LBC: Church is not a place you go or an event you attend; it’s a body to which you belong, and that belonging is built on a mutually recognized commitment to Jesus and one another. (Matt. 18:15-20Rom. 12:4-81 Cor. 12:12-26Eph. 4:1-16Heb. 10:23-25)

If you want to get involved in church, then look no further than the people sitting near you on any given Sunday.

This means that getting involved in church is all about simple, yet intentional relationships. Sure, it may seem unstructured and even unimpressive, but, if you want to get involved in church, then look no further than the people sitting near you on any given Sunday.

Of course, there are always opportunities to get involved in facilitating programs, but the main focus of every single church member should just be simple, intentional, relational ministry with others.

We will follow up this post with 2 very specific ways each member of LBC should plan to get involved in church, but if you want a list of ideas for this week, check out what the New Testament writers say!
