Why Missions Conference

Why Missions Conference

Each year around this time, we set aside a few days to focus on what God is doing locally, nationally, and globally. It’s really a wonderful time for our church family and the missionaries that are with us for the week. But it’s much more than a programmed event. In fact, let me suggest to you 3 reasons why we would take the time, energy, and finances to host a Mission’s Conference.

Remind

We are such forgetful people.  We get so preoccupied with living our lives for ourselves that we forget about what God has called us to do.  Missions Conference is our chance to remind ourselves of our mission.

Lebanon Baptist Church exists to make disciples of Jesus for the Glory of God.

We are called to do this in our community and all across the world. Missions Conference reminds us of the enormous harvest before us.

Rejoice

Missions Conference is also an opportunity for us to hear about recent victories won in many of the mission fields we support.  During these few days, we will hear from many of our missionaries and be encouraged by their testimonies of grace. I can’t help but think of Acts 14:27 when Paul came back from his 1st missionary journey, “And when they arrived and gathered the church together, they declared all that God and done with them, and how he had opened a door of faith to the Gentiles.”

Renew

Finally, Missions Conference is our opportunity to renew our commitment to be a part of God’s great mission. Jesus’ last words must become our first priority. Our hope is that as a result of this conference, your individual heart and our church body will be galvanized to live for a cause much greater than ourselves: The Gospel of the Grace of God!

Striving Together for the Gospel

Our theme this year reminds us that we don’t simply support other people to go do missions for us. As a church, we are partnering together with them, striving together for the sake of the gospel.

While Missions Conference is a great time to connect with our missionaries and celebrate what God is doing, it is also a key time to have our minds and hearts encouraged regarding our own willingness to personally and purposefully engage in the mission. Would you set aside these few days at the end of this month to come together with your church family and be reminded once again of our God-given mission? Allow the Word of God, the Spirit of God, and the people of God to influence your heart and stir up within you a committed passion to labor together in making disciples of Jesus for the glory of God.
