The church is Jesus’ idea. He has established it and authorized it as His embassy on earth to protect and promote His reputation and purposes in this world (Matthew 16:13-19). Therefore, what we do as a church cannot be driven by personal preferences, cultural expectations, or pragmatic creativity. We must be anchored to the truth of Scripture in order to know what, how, and why we are to operate as a church.
OUR MISSION: to make disciples of Jesus for the glory of God
Derived from Matthew 28:18-20, our purpose statement drives everything and anything we seek to do as a church body.
All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.
The activity of the mission: making disciples of Jesus
Jesus calls us to follow Him, learn from Him, and submit to Him in order to become like Him. But the call is to not simply follow Him personally, we are called to help others follow Him, learn from Him, and submit their lives to Him.
The accomplishment of the mission: go, baptize, and teach
As individuals, we go; as a church we baptize and teach. The mission is accomplished as members of this church go into the world proclaiming the good news of Jesus. When individuals come to faith in Christ, they are to then be baptized (united with the church) and taught to obey Jesus in all things. In other words, churches, not just individuals, fulfill the Great Commission.
The aim of the mission: the glory of God
We do everything in the recognition that God alone is worthy of our love loyalty and allegiance (1 Corinthians 10:31). And everything we do is to help other people come to the recognition that God alone is worthy of their love loyalty and allegiance, too. (1 Corinthians 10:32)
OUR VISION: TO RAISE UP AND SEND OUT DISCIPLES TO ESTABLISH CHURCHES IN ATLANTA, THE SALT LAKE VALLEY, INDONESIA, AND THE WORLD
We are convinced that the purposes of God in salvation are not to simply redeem many unrelated individuals, but to gather a people of His very own reconciled to Himself and with one another (Ephesians 2:11- 3:21). In other words, God’s great plan of reconciliation is actually displayed and realized in the local church – it is His mission strategy!
As a church, we will focus our efforts in a few strategic locations where the advancement of the Gospel will open doors for further ministry in the world. By God’s grace, we envision being a congregation that establishes and supports ministries that will continue this strategic process.
