One Month Later …

Well, it’s been a couple of months now since we started into out our church-wide initiative of Treasuring Scripture Together. Some of us have been reading for distance through the Storyline of the Bible. Others have been reading for depth through the New Testament.

We’ve also committed to memorize Scripture together. Hopefully, we have all been working to commit these different passages to memory.

So, how is it going for you?

  • Has it ended up being a stereotypical New Year’s Resolution attempt, or are you actually surprised at the consistency you’ve seen?
  • Are you moving along well, or are you sensing a sluggishness setting in?
  • Did you have a firestorm start only to reach February barely moving?
  • Are you ahead in the reading, or do you feel too far behind to even try to catch up?
  • Have you been encouraging others and being encouraged, or have you managed to isolate your efforts from everyone else?

Where are you in these endeavors? Well, wherever you are – don’t stop, don’t be discouraged, don’t slow down, and no matter what … don’t quit!

Reading Scripture Together

This month, those in the Storyline plan will be reading through the book of Numbers. Those in the New Testament plan will finish up Revelation and start into the Pastoral letters from Paul to Timothy and Titus.

Did you know that if you get behind in the reading, it really isn’t too difficult to catch up. Take a look at these two infographics. It’s pretty surprising how little time it actually takes to read through a particular book of the Bible. For example: you can read through the Gospel of John in less time than it would take you to watch a football game.

Memorizing Scripture Together

In January we learned of who God is – the supreme worthy sovereign creator. In February, we learned what God is like – holy, just, and righteous. In March, we will begin to consider who man is and what man is like.

Man is sinful.

Romans 3:10-12 – There is none righteous, no, not one; there is none who understands; there is none who seeks after God. They have all turned aside; they have together become unprofitable; there is none who does good, no, not one.

Studying Scripture Together

If you haven’t joined the Wednesday PM study group, you should join us. We’ve been learning to take a basic approach, using simple tools, to study the Bible. We’ve specifically been studying through Philippians. It’s a great time to learn together!

Remember the key element of this initiative is that we are doing this together. In fact, if you haven’t done so yet, maybe join the Facebook group to post your questions, comments, and any encouraging thoughts to help each other in this. Let’s all continue to reach out and encourage one another to continue to Treasure Scripture by reading, memorizing, and studying the Word of God together.
